Engelbart

Engelbart is a research notebook that remembers where all of your thoughts came from. It aggregates context from across the research tools you already use (like Overleaf, Zotero, Google Drive, and GitHub) so you can work without re-explaining your projects or re-attaching files and context.

Research is largely a matter of telling a narrative about how you came to a specific conclusion, but scattered thoughts and agent conversations get lost because it's so difficult to trace back your work and decisions to the paper, essay, or website that informed it.

We feel that current AI research tools discourage understanding and deep thought by automating away many of the uniquely human parts of research—diving deep into rabbit holes, finding authors you enjoy reading, and seeking out collaborators. On the other hand, AI can be exceptionally helpful while conducting research, and we find it preposterous that existing tools don't focus on amplifying your ability to do great research through using models as thought partners. Engelbart links every thought to the paper or agent conversation that shaped it, so you can always retrace how you got there.
